Black Butte Ranch is a resort community northwest of Sisters, under the butte it is named for. Calvin covers it on his Sisters runs.
It is not a city. Deschutes County's Board of Commissioners is the governing body for the Black Butte Ranch Service District, and the county treats the ranch as a destination resort with its own recreational facility. The butte itself is a Deschutes National Forest hike reached from Highway 20 northwest of Sisters.
